My research focuses on auction theory, industrial organization, competition and regulatory policies, and the Chinese economy. My most recent work is concerned with collusion, entry, and resale in auction markets; competition in international telephone markets; Nash bargaining with non-convexity; platform competition and standardization; and economic analysis of competition policy and the implications for China. I currently hold the position of Professor of Economics at the University of Southern California. Previously, I held the positions of Associate Professor of Economics at the University of British Columbia and Associate Professor of Economics at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. I have also held visiting professor positions at Tsinghua University (Beijing), Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business (Beijing), and Shanghai University of Finance and Economics. In addition to my academic positions, I held T.D. MacDonald Chair in Industrial Economics at the Competition Bureau in Canada from 2000 to 2001 and am currently a senior consultant in Delta Economics Group and ERS Group. In the areas of auctions, business strategies, antitrust and regulatory policies, I have advised a number of clients including the Competition Bureau of Canada, Bell Canada, Microsoft Corporation, the World Bank, and the Ministry of Information Industries in China. I serve in various editorial capacities for the International Journal of Industrial Organization (2004-), the Annals of Economics and Finance (2001- ), China Economic Quarterly (2001- ), and the Review of Industrial Economics (2002- ). I was previously an Associate Editor for the International Economic Review (1999-2001). My research work has been published in such leading scholarly journals as the American Economic Review, Econometrica, Review of Economic Studies, RAND Journal of Economics, Journal of Economic Theory, Games and Economic Behavior, International Economic Review, and Journal of Development Economics, as well as many others. I have been the recipient of several research grants from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, the Hong Kong Research Grants Council, and Microsoft Corporation, as well as a Hampton Research Grant (Canada). |
