Project Intent Evita Moussalli
The surrounding neighborhood is primarily Hispanic to the north and Korean to the south. By creating a north-south axis on the site, a "street" along which everything could be organized, the two diverse groups may move through the site and interact. Green and shared spaces among the internal orientation of buildings emphasizes the inner street and pushes the outer city streets to become secondary. Openings in the facade are concentrated toward the inside and play spaces are located on the second level.
Co-Use Program
The "street" is made up of three stepped zones: 1) the south zone is most public with a Branch library and multi-purpose room, 2) the middle zone is the semi-private 'heart' of the school with classrooms K through 5, and 3) the north zone is most private with admin. spaces, dining, and kindergarten classrooms and play areas.
