This
reading guide is designed by Professor Viet
Nguyen of USC and based on information drawn from Writing Self, Writing
Nation, edited by Elaine Kim and Norma Alarcon, published by Third Woman
Press of Berkeley in 1994, with essays from Elaine Kim, Lisa Lowe, Laura Kang,
and Shelley Wong. The guide will take you through twenty pages of Dictee,
starting from the frontispiece and prefatory pages, through the numbered pages.
Note that there are twenty pages in the reading guide, but the last page of
the guide refers to page 21 of Dictee. As we shall see, this problem
arises from the fact that the first page of Dictee is not really page
