Teaching Experience

At the University of Birmingham (UK) I taught a freshman course in electromagnetic theory for electrical engineers. I also taught laboratory classes, helped to develop experiments for those classes, and senior year research projects. I taught and supervised problem classes, and gave tutorials in analog and digital electronic design, optics and mathematics.

I have taught and collaborated with many graduate students in Helio and Asteroseismology including Dr. Steven Morgan (University of Birmingham), Dr. Antonio Jimenéz (IAC, Spain), Dr. Juan Antonio Belmonte (IAC, Spain), Dr. Torben Leifsen (University of Oslo, Norway), Dr. Patrick Boumier (University of Paris XI, France), Christine Gravel (IAS, France), Dr. Hans Kjeldsen (University of Aarhus, Denmark), Dr. Marianne Sodemann (University of Aarhus, Denmark), Michael Viscum (University of Aarhus, Denmark), and Dr. Edward Pottasch (University of Groningen, The Netherlands).

At the National Solar Observatory in Tucson I worked with an REU student, Reed Riddle (now a graduate student Georgia State University), on the development of data analysis techniques for high-l helioseismology.

At USC I have worked closely with graduate student Dr. Chia-Hsien Lin developing various new techniques in data analysis and local helioseismology. I have also worked with several other graduate students in the Physics and Astronomy Departments at USC and UCLA.

As a dive instructor I have lectured on the physics, biology and medical aspects of diving, including advanced courses on mixed gas and saturation diving.

I have also given talks at high schools about my experiences in Antarctica, and the science performed there.
