Introduction to Communication Technology

    This class is designed as an introduction to contemporary issues in communication technology. Beginning with the earliest technology (writing) we will explore the various social, political, cultural, and economic impacts of new communication technology. The course goals are threefold:
    • To help students build a technical vocabulary to better understand new communication technology
    • To provide a sense of background, history, and origins of new communication technologies, particularly computers
    • To have students engage with technology in a series of hands-on exercises which will familiarize students with new technology
Graduate Seminar: Artificial Intelligence
    The goals of this course are to introduce and explore issues of artificial intelligence from three perspectives: philosophical issues of AI, understanding what AI is and how it works, and cultural and social issues of AI. In doing so, we will cover a wide range of theories and ideas, ranging from classical philosophy to pop culture. By the end of the course you will be familiar with the keys issues and debates surround AI, as well as the ethical and moral issued raised by this aspect of technology.
