Biographical information for James Cornford

James Cornford is a Senior Research Associate based in the Centre for Urban and Regional Development Studies (CURDS) University of Newcastle. He is currently part of a team working on project entitled 'Space, Place and the Virtual University', funded by the UK Economic and Social Research Council as part of its Virtual Society? Programme. In addition to research on the virtual university, he is also leading a study on the role of new media business in regional development in the UK and developing information support tools for social science researchers. He is the author of, most recently, 'Counting Computers, or why we are not well informed about the information society', (in D. Dorling and L. Simpson, (eds.) Statistics and Society, London, Edward Arnold, 1999) and (with Kevin Robins) 'New media', (in J. Stokes and A. Reading (eds.) The Media in Britain: Current Debates and Developments, London, Macmillan, 1999).
