Biographical information for Prof. Stephen D. McDowell
Stephen McDowell is based in the Department of Communication at Florida
State University in Tallahassee, where he teaches in the areas of
communication policy, new technology and society, and mass media.
His research has dealt with new communication technology, and with
communication policies in India, Canada, and the United States. Recent
papers address software and telecommunications policies in India, public
interest groups in Canadian information highway strategy, cities and the
U.S. Telecommunications Act of 1996, and television content ratings and
V-Chip technology design in Canada and the United States. He is presently
working on a book manuscript with Michele Jackson evaluating theory and
research on new communication technology.
