Biographical information for Dr. Tamara Sumner
Dr. Sumner recently joined the Center for LifeLong Learning and Design at
the University of Colorado at Boulder. At the Center, her research is
investigating: (1) how we can design scholarly archives to promote wider
use and participation, and (2) how we can integrate research and education
by providing undergraduates with discovery learning opportunities. Prior to
joining the Center, Sumner was at the Knowledge Media Institute at The Open
University, UK. While at the Open University, she participated in the
design of 'M206 Computing: An Object-oriented Approach'. This multiple
media, open-learning course is based on an innovative interactive teaching
model that encompasses both traditional media (text and television) and
digital media (web resources, CD-ROMs, conferencing system). The course
currently serves over 5000 students annually at The Open University in the
UK and received a British Computer Society IT Award in 1998 for its
innovative design. Sumner is also co-founder and co-editor of The Journal
of Interactive Media in Education. This electronic journal offers open
interactive peer review and commentary as well as embedded interactive
demonstrations and simulations.
