| Project Intent Erin Spurgeon Using a site on which a LAUSD project is currently proposed, this project seeks to combine a PrimaryCenter (K-2) and a community component which utilizes both own space and shared spaces with the school, in order to create a hybrid facility that can serve the neighborhood at all hours of the day and at all times of the year. The community components and shared use areas and circulation serving those, act as layers, protecting the classrooms which lay within. The landscape becomes another layer, shielding the community center from the harsh traffic on Olympic Boulevard and seperating the classrooms from circulation areas. In this neighborhood, where any form of green is hard to come by, integrating landscaping into the project became one of the most important aspects. Not only does this landscaping serve as protection, but also becomes a community resource.
Co-Use Program
The community component contains meeting facilities, youth lounges for after-school programs, and specialized classrooms (art, science, drama) and a multi-purpose room shared with the school.
