Kevin J. Murphy is the Kenneth L. Trefftzs Chair in Finance in the department of finance and business economics at the USC Marshall School of Business, professor of business and law in the USC Law School, and professor of economics in the USC Economics Department. In addition, he served as chair for the Marshall School's Department of Finance and Business Economics from 2003-2004, and as the Marshall School's Vice Dean of Faculty and Academic Affairs from 2004-2007. He is an internationally known expert on executive compensation, and is the author of more than forty articles, cases, or book chapters relating to compensation and incentives in organizations. Results from his research on executive compensation have appeared in the popular, business and professional press.
Prior to joining USC in 1995, he was on the faculty at the Harvard Business School (1991-94) and the University of Rochester's Simon School of Business (1984-91). His research interestsfocused primarily on compensation, incentives, and organizationsspan finance, economics, accounting, human resource management, and organizational behavior. He is the former chairman of the Academic Research Committee of WorldAtWork (formerly the American Compensation Association) and is an associate editor of the Journal of Financial Economics and the Journal of Corporate Finance. |
