TOP MODELER  INSTALLATION GUIDE

The TOP Modeler™ Demonstration Version software comes as a self-extracting zip archive file, compressed with WinZip6.3. You do not need WinZip to extract the software because it is self-extracting. After the installation files are extracted from the archive, TOP Modeler™ follows a standard Windows95 installation procedure.

To install the software, please follow these steps: 

1. Register for the Registration Key that will unlock TOP Modeler™ for its first use. To register, go to the "Downloads" web page and click on the button "Register/Download TM Demo" at the bottom. Enter your email address and other registration information on this page, and click the "Submit Registration " button at the bottom. A Registration Key for the Demonstration Version will be sent to you by email at the email address you specified. After you register, you will be placed in a web page from which you can download the TOP Modeler™ Demo Version file.

2. After you register, you will be placed in a web page from which you can download the TOP Modeler™ Demo Version file, which is called "TMDEMO.exe". Download this file by clicking on the "Download" button on the bottom of this page. Download the "TMDEMO.exe" file into any temporary directory, such as "c:\temp". This file is about 4.5MB in size.

3. Go to the directory into which you downloaded the TOP Modeler™ file, such as your c:\temp directory. Double-click on "TMDEMO.exe" This will extract (unzip) several installation files from the archive file. You will prompted for a directory into which you want to put the extracted files. The choice is yours but the easiest may be to extract the installation files into the same directory, c:\temp. 

After extraction, there will be the following four files:


setup.exe
SETUP.LST
installation notes
TopModelerDemo.zip

You will need approximately 5 MB more for these installation files.

4. You are now ready to run the setup program. Setup may not be able to install TOP Modeler if other programs are running, so before running setup, close all other programs and MSDOS windows. You can now run the setup program by double-clicking on the setup.exe file. This is a standard Windows95 Setup program and thus will prompt you or offer you options for several things. We recommend that you use the defaults (such as suggested directories, etc) offered by Setup at this point. You may also be asked the following: "A file being copied is older than the file currently on your system. Do you want to keep this file?" You should follow the setup program's recommendations and answer "yes". If any messages appear that mention other kinds of installation problems (such as sharing violations or missing files), you are generally safe to click the "Ignore" button. 

TOP Modeler™ installation will take about 30 to 40 Megabytes of disk space more, and it will install new Windows System components (.dll and other files) into your Windows/System and other directories. [Of course, you can later uninstall these by uninstalling TOP Modeler™ using "Add/Remove Programs" from the Control Panel.]

5. After Setup has completed, you will find the final TOP Modeler™ files in the c:\Program Files\TOP MODELER directory (unless you changed the default directory during setup). For example, you will find the TOP Modeler™ Help file (TMDMHP.hlp) from which you can get additional information about TOP Modeler™ before you run it, if desired. Simply doubleclick on this ".hlp" file and you will see a contents page that includes a tutorial, menu help, and release notes. You will also see several versions of "TM Installation and User Release Notes" files (.doc, .html, and .txt formats) that give simple instructions. Finally, you will see the ".exe" file that, if double-clicked, can be used to start TOP Modeler™ instead of starting it from the Start Menu bar. You may now, if you desire, delete the temporary directory (e.g., c:\ temp) and its contents, since they are no longer needed. You may wish to keep the original downloaded file TMDEMO.exe (that you may have put into your c:\temp directory) if you want to reinstall at a later time. Please recall that you are licensed to use a specific number of TOP Modeler™ installations only.

6. To start TOP Modeler™, you should go to Programs in your Start Menu, where you will find an entry for "TOP MODELER DEMO Version". The first time you start TOP Modeler™, you will be asked for the Registration Key. Check your email for the Registration Key. It was sent just after you registered (see step 1 above). You may either type the Key in, or copy and paste it in; if you type it in, do not press "Enter" or "Return" immediately---instead, tab to the OK button and then press "Enter", or use the mouse to click the OK button. If the registration Key is not accepted the first time, try retyping or copying and pasting several times; you may have accidentally mistyped it. Once the Registration Key is accepted, you never need to enter it again for future uses of TOP Modeler™. The next screen you will see will ask you to review the license agreement, and if it is acceptable to you, go ahead and click on the "yes" button and proceed to using TOP Modeler™!
