VIET THANH NGUYEN
Excuse the cheesy picture. I thought it would be fun to have something...fun. I'm on Lake Geneva, summer 2001. A little bit about me: I was born in Ban Me Thuot, Viet Nam, and grew up in San Jose, California. After doing my undergraduate education in English and Ethnic Studies at Berkeley, I did my graduate education at...Berkeley. I was there for a long time, and finally left with a doctorate in English. I started teaching at the University of Southern California in the Department of English and the Program in American Studies and Ethnicity in 1997. I have a book forthcoming in March, titled Race and Resistance, and fiction forthcoming in Manoa and Orchid. My articles and reviews have been published in American Quarterly, American Literary History, Journal of Asian American Studies, Amerasia Journal, Western American Literature, Hitting Critical Mass, positions: east asia cultures critique, Jouvert, the Resource Guide to Asian American Literature, and A. Magazine. You can reach me at vnguyen@usc.edu.
SAY MY NAME!
So how do you pronounce my name? First name is self-explanatory. Middle name is pronounced with a hard T, as in "T" plus "on." Last name is pronounced "win." That's not exactly how it's pronounced in Vietnamese, of course, but it'll do for most non-Vietnamese speakers.
