DR. YONGHENG DENG is Director of the Institute of Real Estate Studies, Professor of Real Estate at the Department of Real Estate, School of Design and Environment, and Professor of Finance at the Department of Finance, NUS Business School, the National University of Singapore. He brings to the faculty a distinctive capability in applied econometrics and empirical financial economic analysis. While his primary research interest is in the empirical exploration of the behaviors of households, mortgage borrowers and real estate investors, his research pertains to a wide variety of issues relating to real estate capital and financial markets; mortgages and mortgage-backed securities, credit risk analysis; structured finance, securitization and derivatives; empirical asset pricing; survival models with unobserved heterogeneity; household behavior and husing policy.
Professor Deng has been elected to serve on the board of directors for many academic organizations including the American Real Estate and Urban Economic Association, and Asian Real Estate Society. He also serves on the advisory board of the Real Estate Research Institute, and on the board of real estate council of advisors for the Gerson Lehrman Group. He is a Fellow at the Homer Hoyt Institute of Advanced Real Estate Studies, and a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (FRICS). He was the sole recipient of the Best Ph.D. Dissertation Award (1995) from Homer Hoyt Institute and American Real Estate and Urban Economics Association (AREUEA), and a recipient of the Homer Hoyt Best Paper Award (with Stuart Gabriel) in the AsRES-AREUEA Joint International Conference (2002). Prior to joining the NUS faculty, he was appointed as professor at the University of Southern California. He has also served as an Economist and Expert in the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight (OFHEO) in Washington D.C., and was a Post-Doctoral research fellow at the Zell/Lurie Real Estate Center at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California at Berkeley
Professor Deng is currently on the editorial boards of Real Estate Economics, and Journal of Real Estate Finance and Economics, and has served as referees for many academic journals including American Economic Review, Econometrica, Journal of Finance, Journal of Political Economy, Journal of Econometrics, Journal of Urban Economics, Regional Science and Urban Economics, Journal of Real Estate Finance and Economics, Real Estate Economics, Journal of Housing Economics, Journal of Real Estate Research, International Real Estate Review, Journal of Policy Analysis & Management, Annals of Operations Research, Tsinghua Science and Technology, Risk Magazine.He has also served as external reviewer for the National Science Foundation in the United States, and the Government of Hong Kong Academic Grant Office.
